Side Effects

A very common side effect is hair loss, especially in high doses and long duration. Nausea and vomiting occur in approximately half of all patients. Bone marrow suppression is common and the severity of these side effects is dose dependent.

Bladder inflammation is a are common and dose-dependent side effect; it can be prevented and / or alleviated by co-administration of Mesna. 10-20% of patients treated with high doses of ifosfamide experience symptoms of confusion within a few hours or a few days after starting treatment.

Frequently (1-10%)

  • Fatigue, weakness, malaise. Fever, infections

  • Bone marrow suppression

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Hair loss

Changes in acid-base balance

  • Confusion, drowsiness

  • Bladder disorders

  • Renal impairment

  • Reduced male fertility
